Ellis Gardner: Volunteer Day Local Food Drive

All year long, realtors demonstrate what it means to be good neighbors. In the most recent research from the National Association of Realtors, the CARE Report: Community Aid and Real Estate, shows that nearly seven out of 10 (69 percent) realtors volunteered monthly, typically spending eight hours per month. In addition, 86 percent of realtors made monetary donations to charitable organizations. Eighty percent of realtors reported that involvement in their community is an important part of their business plan, and 82 percent reported it is important to them personally.

In addition to individual efforts throughout the year, each May, realtors across the country come together for NAR’s Volunteer Days.
This year, Greater Chattanooga Realtors is proud to join in again in this initiative, which is a powerful reminder that while we help people find homes, we’re also deeply committed to strengthening the communities we serve.

For 2025’s Volunteer Days, Greater Chattanooga Realtors are focusing on a critical need – food insecurity among local children. As school lets out for the summer, many kids lose access to the regular meals they count on through school lunches or programs like the Snack Pack Ministry, which we support monetarily and at the monthly packing.

With rising food costs and recent budget cuts, our local Chattanooga Area Food Bank is urgently searching for new avenues of support — and that’s where we come in. To help fill the gap, GCR’s Cultural Awareness & Fair Housing Committee is hosting a Food Drive to benefit our local food banks.

We invite all our members and the community to join in by donating some of the most urgently needed items:
• Peanut butter;
• Canned vegetables (beans, corn, green beans, carrots, peas);
• Canned fruit;
• Canned soup; and
• Canned proteins (pork & beans, chili, chicken).

You may drop off your donations at the Association office Monday through Friday, May 10–18, from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. If you’re planning a larger donation and need help with pick-up, please contact Fanci Moore at 423-698-8001.

Across the country, realtor volunteer efforts embody the volunteer spirit that sets apart our profession. Let’s show once again that realtors are good neighbors — because when we come together, we don’t just help people find houses; we help build a stronger, more caring community. #ThatsWhoWeR #RealtorsAreGoodNeighbors
