Following the historic National Invitation Tournament postseason title run, Chattanooga Vice Chancellor & Director of Athletics Mark Wharton has announced a six-year contract extension for head men’s basketball coach Dan Earl. The newly signed contract extension runs through the 2030-31 season.
“Dan is a proven commodity,” Wharton began. “We had great faith in who he was as a leader three years ago around this time when we hired him. That faith has been rewarded well beyond wins and championships. We are excited to get this new agreement completed and reward him and his staff for jobs well done.”
Earl has also announced various coaching staff title changes including the elevation of both Ander Galfsky and Scott Greenman to Associate Head Coach roles. Logan Dahms moves from a special assistant to an Assistant Coach. Alan Treakle will add an Assistant Coach title to his current Director of Basketball Operations role.
Earl recently completed his third season at Chattanooga, compiling a 29-9 record that featured a Southern Conference regular season championship along with the unprecedented five straight wins as underdogs to capture the NIT crown in Indianapolis. Earl was recognized as both SoCon Coach of the Year as well Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.
Earl has registered a 69-38 mark for the Mocs following seven seasons at VMI, where he landed his first head coaching position. Previously, Earl had served as an assistant coach at Navy and Penn State, his alma mater where he was a captain and four-year starter for the Nittany Lions.
The financial terms of Earl’s new contract were not disclosed.
