Mizutani Named Asociate Head Tennis Coach At Covenant

  • Saturday, June 7, 2025
- Covenant Director of Athletics and Tennis Head Coach, John Hirte, announced Renato Mizutani as Associate Head Coach.

"We are thrilled to add Renato to our coaching staff! He brings a wealth of experience teaching tennis at multiple levels, and shares a genuine desire to help our athletes know Jesus better through their experience playing college tennis." Hirte said.

Mizutani comes to Covenant after spending two seasons as an Assistant Coach at Sewanee. He helped lead both the Men's and Women's Tennis programs to back-to-back SAA Championships and NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

The Tigers were also nationally ranked in both sports during Mizutani's time on the coaching staff.
This helped lead Sewanee to winning SAA Coaching Staff of the Year for both Men's and Women's Tennis for the 2025 season.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Covenant College Tennis program and serve our Lord Jesus," Mizutani said. "My goal is to encourage the student-athletes to pursue excellence with selfless love and humble spirit for the glory of God."

Prior to working at Sewanee, Mizutani coached at Chattanooga Christian from 2020-2024 and Baylor School from 2017-2019. For each program he coached both Middle School and High School. In the 2018 season at Baylor, the Women's Team won the State Championship.

For 10 years from 2007-2017, Mizutani was the Tennis Pro at Manker Patten Tennis Club. In this role he taught Tennis players of all skill levels and ages.

Mizutani is a Level I USPTR Certified Tennis Instructor. He graduated from Shorter University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. In 2014, he earned a Masters in Education from UT Chattanooga.
