The pilot was killed and the passenger injured in the crash of a small plane at Dunlap on Wednesday evening.
Wendall Trimble, 79, of Dunlap, died in the Piper J3C-65 crash, and Ashnish Sircar, 55, of Florida, was seriously injured. The place belonged to Mr. Trimble.
The plane landed in a field near hay bales. NTSB Aviation Accident Investigator Ryan Enders says the plane was attempting to land when it crashed. The right wing had substantial damage, but the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
The NTSB says it is unclear at this time who was piloting the plane due to both seats having operation controls. Mr. Trimble was licensed and had been a pilot for a long time, according to the NTSB.
The preliminary report of the crash will be published in about three weeks, and the final report will be published in 18 months, Mr. Enders said.
The National Transportation Safety Board was leading the investigation.
