Williams, John "Max" M.

Had A Huge Heart, Infectious Smile, And Quick Wit

  • Tuesday, June 17, 2025

John “Max” M. Williams Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on June 4, 2025.

He was born on June 29, 1948, in Richmond, Virginia. He grew up in Blackstone, Virginia and moved to Chattanooga in 1993.

To know Max was to love him. He had the heart of an angel and the spirit of a warrior. There are far too many stories to count that illustrate his huge heart. He was known for his infectious smile, spirit, and quick wit, so you never knew what would come from his mouth next. He knew how to make people smile even when he was exhausted. Max loved his church, Abba’s House. He served as a deacon, a custodian, and was a faithful member of the choir.

Max is survived by his mother, Ruby Williams, his brother, Gary (Kay), his son, Ashley (Angela Haygood), his grandsons, Brandon (Brooklyn Jones) and Ian, his granddaughters, Jade Kech and Shaleigh Whitten (Dillon Gardner). He also has two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

The memorial service will be held on Friday, June 20, at Abba’s House, 5208 Hixson Pike, Hixson. Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. and the service will begin at 6 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Ashley Williams to help provide for the family needs during this difficult time. Donations may be sent on-line through your bank’s Zelle feature to 423-298-3019 or mailed to Ashley Williams at 4618 Florida Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37409.
