During an awards ceremony at Normal Park Museum Magnet School on Tuesday, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office School Resource Deputy and D.A.R.E. Instructor Ian Morrow announced the overall winner of the HCSO’s D.A.R.E. Program Essay Contest.

Throughout the school year, students participating in the D.A.R.E. program were invited to submit essays reflecting on what they learned in class and how the program has influenced their lives. Each participating school selected first, second and third place winners.
The first-place winners then advanced to a final round of judging to determine the overall county-wide essay contest winner.

This year, that honor goes to Felix Windemuller of Normal Park Museum Magnet School.

Officials said, "In his thoughtful and inspiring essay, Felix described how the D.A.R.E. Decision-Making Model has helped him manage his emotions, make responsible choices and pursue a healthier lifestyle. His reflections highlighted the lasting impact of the program’s health and safety education."

“This year’s inaugural D.A.R.E. essay contest provided students with an opportunity to reflect on how the program has impacted their lives and the valuable lessons they’ve learned. It also offered classmates, families and the community a meaningful look at the program’s role and how it is guiding students toward positive, responsible life choices. Congratulations to Felix on this exciting accomplishment and thank you to all our graduates who participated in this year’s D.A.R.E. Program essay contest,” said Sheriff Austin Garrett.

"Please join Sheriff Austin Garrett and the men and women of the HCSO School Resource Deputy Unit in congratulating Felix on this outstanding achievement," officials said.
