Thanks to Earl for his inspirational article on Lonnie Floyd and the family on this Memorial Day. I was a student at Northside along with Earl and Lonnie in the early 60s.

We had another classmate named Lance Workman who was also a KIA in Vietnam. Lance was from another wonderful North Chattanooga family like Lonnie and I knew him from the 4th grade at Normal Park all the way through our senior year at CHS in 1965.

Unlike Lonnie who went straight into the Army after graduating as an enlisted man, Lance went through the ROTC program at UTC and graduated as a 1st LT helicopter pilot. His copter was shot down on June 16, 1971 and Lt Workman passed away on July 11.

The ultimate sacrifice these two made will never be forgotten by those of us who grew up with them in North Chattanooga. RIP Lance and Lonnie.
